In a rematch of the gold medal match at the Tokyo Paralympics, India's Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj went down to France's Lucas Mazur once again, setting for a silver medal after a 0-2 defeat in the Men's Singles SL4 section on Monday. Yathiraj, who had lost to Mazur in three games in the Tokyo final, could not repeat that performance and lost 9-21, 13-21 to the local star in a match that lasted 34 minutes. The SL4 category is for players with movement affected at a low level on one side of the body, in both legs or the minor absence of one limb. They play standing on a full-width court and have good court movement and a full range of shots.
Star javelin thrower Sumit Antil on Monday became the first Indian man and second from the country to defend the title as he won the F64 category gold with Paralympics record of 70.59m at the Paris Games. The 26-year-old world record holder from Sonipat in Haryana bettered his own earlier Paralympic best of 68.55m set in Tokyo while winning the gold three years ago.
Top-seeded Indian shuttler Nitesh Kumar secured a medal in men's singles SL3 category after a commanding straight-game win over Japan's Daisuke Fujihara in the semifinals at the Paris Paralympics on Sunday. The 29-year-old Nitesh, who overcame permanent leg damage from a 2009 accident, showed his dominance with a 21-16 21-12 win over Fujihara in a 48-minute semifinal. The IIT Mandi graduate thus ensured that India return with a medal from the SL3 category, after Pramod Bhagat clinched the gold when para badminton made its debut three years ago in Tokyo.

India's Preethi Pal won a bronze in women's 200m T35 category, her second medal of Paris Paralympics, with a personal best time of 30.01 seconds on Sunday. The bronze won by the 23-year-old Preethi was also India's second para-athletics medal in the Paris Games. T35 classification is meant for athletes who have coordination impairments such as hypertonia, ataxia and athetosis. On Friday, she had clinched India's first athletics medal in a Paralympics track event, winning a bronze in the women's T35 100m competition with a personal best time of 14.21 seconds.
The Indian trio of Dhanush Srikanth, Shourya Saini and Mohammed Murtaza Vania made a clean sweep of the 10m Air Rifle men's event on Day Two of the 2nd World Deaf Shooting Championship 2024 being held at Hanover, Germany. Mahit Sandhu and Natasha Joshi also won silver and bronze in the women's event as India added five medals to the four (one gold, two silver and one bronze) they won on Day One of the competition.
