Lille Fans Stabbed In 'Ambush' Before Bologna Champions League Clash: Club

Two Lille fans were stabbed during an attack carried out by dozens of Bologna supporters before the two teams' Champions League fixture, the French Ligue 1 club said on Wednesday. In a statement, Lille said the two fans "received medical treatment" after the attack outside a bar in the northern Italian city late on Tuesday. "The club unreservedly condemns this cowardly and intolerable attack, which contravenes all the values of football," said Lille before Wednesday's game. Italian media, citing local police, said 80 people, most likely Bologna supporters, assaulted around 30 Lille fans outside a bar in the city's university district while armed with metal bars and belts.

1st Test, Day 1: Lahiru Kumara Gives Sri Lanka Edge On Rain-Hit Day Against South Africa

Lahiru Kumara struck twice as Sri Lanka's bowlers had the better of a rain-hit opening day of the first Test against South Africa at Kingsmead on Wednesday. South Africa were 80 for four when rain stopped play for the day shortly before lunch. Fast bowler Kumara took wickets in successive overs to put his team on top -- and was denied a third wicket because of a no-ball. "There was a lot in favour of the bowling team and they bowled well. The deliveries that got wickets were all pretty decent," said South Africa batting coach Ashwell Prince.

"Matter Of Embarrassment": Prithvi Shaw Given Brutal Reality Check Over IPL 2025 Auction Setback

Once touted as the player who possess the same talent as the greats Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara and Virender Sehwag, Prithvi Shaw saw his career hit an all-new low in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction. The opening batter didn't receive a single bid in the auction on Monday despite keeping his base price at a meagre INR 75 lakh. Shaw remains a player of high potential but disciplinary issues seem to have taken a massive toll on him, sending his cricketing career on a downward spiral. As Shaw went unsold in the auction, former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif showed him the cruel reality of his current status.

Delhi Capitals (DC) co-owner Parth Jindal stated that the franchise's split with star India wicketkeeper-batter and marquee player Rishabh Pant was due to differences in "philosophies" regarding franchise management, and had nothing to do with financial issues. Pant became the most expensive player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history when Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) purchased him for a staggering Rs 27 crore during the IPL mega auction held in Jeddah on Sunday.

England batter Joe Root has hit back at comments made by former Australia cricketer and coach Darren Lehmann. The latter had earlier come out and stated that he doesn't consider Root to be an "all-time great", as he had not scored a century in Australia, against England's biggest rivals. Root - who is England's highest run-scorer in Test history - has now swiftly responded to Lehmann's remarks. Root is set to play for England in three Tests against New Zealand away from home.
