No Imo athlete was disqualified, we play by rules, says Okonkwo
The Imo State Commissioner for Sports Emeka Okonkwo has declared that none of the state’s athletes was thrown out of the ongoing 7th National Youth Games on account of age discrepancies The commissioner, who spoke with journalists in Asaba said that Team Imo athletes and officials play by the rules governing the competition and wouldn’t succumb to such a foul play. He noted that the Governor of the State Sen. Hope Uzodinma has motivated the contingent enough to expect a good result from all of them in Asaba.
Okereke is Delta’s athletics treasure
Delta State sports officials are beholding treasure Ngozi Okereke after she topped the girls’ 400m race of the National Youth Games. The event was the highlight of the day and spectators at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, were on the edge of their seats as Okereke and the other girls battle for supremacy. Okereke, who had earlier on ran the fastest time in the 200m semi-finals, powered home from the last curve to finish at 55.53secs, while Easter Kelechi of Imo placed second with 56.35secs, Julia Taiwo of Ondo was third with 57. 05sec.
