'Sometimes' - Liverpool sent Serge Gnabry warning amid Bayern Munich transfer rumours
Liverpool have been told by one of their former players they could accommodate the signing of Serge Gnabry - but that it would be "madness" to do so.
The Reds have been linked with the Bayern Munich forward, albeit tentatively, along with a host of other players. Gnabry’s contract with the Bundesliga champions is due to expire next summer and there are no signs yet of an extension.
Liverpool have already had dealings with Bayern this summer, following the sale of Sadio Mane. The Reds agreed a £35m deal for the Senegalese international who, like Gnabry, had one year left on his contract.
And ex-Liverpool star Steve McMananan believes Jurgen Klopp would be able to fit the Germany international into his forward line despite already having Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino to call on. But that doesn't mean he wants the transfer to happen.
“I think Liverpool could accommodate Serge Gnabry. He offers something a bit different, he offers pace,” McManaman told Horseracing.net . “He’s shown he’s more of a winger than Salah is, because Mo likes to cut in from the right and get on his left.
“Gnabry will drop the shoulder like a typical old-school orthodox winger. So I think they could accommodate him from a playing point of view but again having six forwards would be madness.
“Sometimes it just causes more problems than you need, and Liverpool’s squad is big enough when everybody is fit and well, and if it stays like that, you probably don’t need any more players. That’s the thing in the end, ideally, as a manager, you’d want 36 internationals in your squad, but when you can only pick 11 every week, it’s harder because everyone gets unhappy.
