Sofyan Amrabat might have solved Manchester United's Mason Mount conundrum

Mason Mount is capable of great things at Manchester United but obviously at this early stage in his career at the club he hasn't achieved them yet.

Erik ten Hag was determined to take advantage of Mount's deteriorating relationship with Chelsea and sign him in the summer to bolster his midfield ranks. United saw three bids rejected and wanted him enough that they went over their own imposed limit to get the deal done.

Mount's arrival was the first of an optimism-building summer. The goalkeeper situation was addressed with Andre Onana's arrival, a young and talented striker was captured in Rasmus Hojlund and Sofyan Amrabat was finally signed to bolster the midfield. But the football itself has so far let all the air out of the balloon.

The four defeats so far have seen United revert to the frail and listless nature Ten Hag looked to have eradicated during his first year, with chaos off the field seeping into the disorganised performances. The wins haven't been much better with United only managing to scrape by relegation candidates Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Burnley by one goal.

That did start to change on Tuesday with a confidence-boosting 3-0 win over Crystal Palace. It was only a second-string Palace side and in the Carabao Cup but a dominant win in which they scored good goals and looked like a cohesive unit again can go a long way.
