Snetterton BSB: Mackenzie looking for Race of Aces repeat

Reigning Bennetts British Superbike king Tarran Mackenzie will try and seal his 2022 Showdown spot at Snetterton this weekend with a repeat of last year’s Race of Aces win at the Snetterton track.

Mackenzie bagged two wins there in 2021 which secured the big trophy and now the little Scotsman has two targets for the main season finale.

“I’m looking forward to getting to Snetterton this weekend, it was a really strong track for us in 2021 with two wins for me and Jason winning the other to make it a triple for the team and I won the Race of Aces trophy, which would be nice to achieve again,” said Mackenzie.

“It’s the last weekend before the Showdown starts so the main goal is to actually get through! We’re in seventh at the minute so it would be good to get that Showdown position boxed off as soon as possible this weekend. The weather looks like it may play a bit of a part so we’ll see what happens and give it our best as always.

“Cadwell Park was a lot more positive for me than in previous years. I know our race didn’t look great with the result of P10, but the pace was a lot better. I felt really good in myself and I was with the group in front from tenth/eleventh, to fourth and the pace was just as good as theirs really.

For some reason, maybe it’s a little bit of me, and little bit of Cadwell, the advantages I had with my bike, I didn’t feel like I was ever in the position to be able to pass. I was a bit of a sitting duck. If I could ride my own lines and do my own thing, then riding in the group in front was no problem, but in the first race on Monday I got stuck behind Tom Sykes and I just couldn’t pass him to save my life.
