Snetterton BSB: Fourth Supersport title for Kennedy

Jack Kennedy became the most successful British Supersport Championship rider ever on Sunday with victory in the feature race at Snetterton giving him his 13th win of the season and his fourth title in total.

The Mar-Train Racing Yamaha rider was made to work hard for his record-breaking success by Appleyard Macadam’s Bradley Perie but Kennedy took control at half race distance and eventually won by 1.4s with Jaimie van Sikkelerus (MPM Routz Racing Yamaha) taking third. Perie took the holeshot from Kennedy, Harry Truelove and van Sikkelerus and Truelove soon made it an Appleyard Macadam Yamaha 1-2 although Kennedy quickly retaliated. Indeed, the order at the end of lap one was Perie, Kennedy, Truelove, van Sikkelerus, Rhys Irwin (Astro-JJR Triumph) and Luke Stapleford (Gearlink Kawasaki) Just over half a second covered the leading four riders at the end of lap two and they’d already opened up a two-second gap over fifth-placed Stapleford who had Irwin and Jack Scott, again the leading GP2 rider, for company. Perie continued to lead the way with the three other Yamahas right on his back wheel, the quartet lapping at a similar pace, but Kennedy made his move at the end of the back straight on lap four, diving up the inside to hit the front for the first time. However, Perie responded and re-took the lead at the start of lap five with van Sikkelerus doing similar to Truelove towards the end of the lap and although Kennedy was back in first place a lap later, he immediately ran wide at Wilson’s, handing the lead back to his Yamaha rival. There was drama further back though when Truelove firstly ran onto the grass coming onto the back straight and then crashed out exiting the Esses. That handed fourth to Scott with Lee
