Sky Sports pundit makes honest claim about Jamie Paterson’s Swansea City future

Sky Sports pundit Andy Hinchcliffe has insisted that Swansea City need to resolve Jamie Paterson’s future at the club as soon as possible.

After securing a move to the Jacks last year, the 30-year-old initially made a positive start to life with his new side as he scored eight goals and provided four assists in 22 Championship appearances.

However, Paterson has been left out of Swansea’s match-day squad for their recent clashes with Huddersfield Town and Preston North End as a result of a contract dispute.

A report from Wales Online earlier this month suggested that the former Bristol City man is unhappy with the terms of his contract which include an option for Swansea to extend his stay until the summer of 2023.

The Jacks can trigger this particular clause when Paterson makes 25 appearances for the club.

It is understood that Paterson was expecting to receive better financial terms compared to what he will get as part of this extended deal.

As a result of this current situation, Paterson is reportedly attracting interest from Queens Park Rangers, Blackburn Rovers and Huddersfield Town.

Making reference to Paterson, Hinchcliffe has admitted that he believes that Swansea need to resolve the forward’s future.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Sky Sports EFL podcast about the Swansea man, Hinchcliffe said: “I know there’ll be plenty of other Championship clubs looking at Jamie Paterson and thinking, yeah he’ll really work for us but it’s a situation that needs to get resolved.

“Either the club says, well clearly if you’re not in the right frame of mind, how long is that going to last for as if we can get you feeling okay and in our team we are going to give ourselves a real chance of climbing the league.
