Sky Sports journalist now drops exciting No 10 claim at Newcastle

Journalist Keith Downie has claimed that Eddie Howe may look to sign an attacking midfielder in the summer for Newcastle United.

Miguel Almiron became Newcastle’s record signing in January 2019 but has somewhat failed to make an impact since he arrived in England. He has featured regularly for the Magpies in the Premier League and has made 104 appearances in the four seasons he has been at the club, but he has scored just eight goals across this period.

After the club’s takeover, Newcastle have been linked with players all across the park, and with reports that the newly rich club are ready to sell the midfielder, this could be an indication of a summer move for a player to replace him.

Whilst speaking to GiveMeSport, Downie claimed that Howe may well be looking to bring in an attacking midfielder to Newcastle, which could potentially be a replacement for Almiron if he was to move on in the summer.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if they brought in an attacking midfielder,” Downie said.

TIF Thoughts on Keith Downie’s comments…

Almiron has struggled for form this campaign. He has started just 13 Premier League games, has zero goal contributions and has a successful dribble rate of just 56%, as per SofaScore.

With the club’s newfound wealth, the ambitions of the club will have changed in terms of what they want to achieve on the pitch, so a creative midfielder with these kinds of stats won’t cut it if they want to progress as a club who will potentially be challenging for Europe next season.

Newcastle will be hoping that if they can sell Almiron for £15m, as per the reports, they can use this money to help fund a new attacking midfielder.
