Sky Sports and GAA end broadcast agreement
Sky Sports and the GAA have confirmed an end to their nine-year broadcast deal.
Having entered the market in 2014, the broadcaster today confirmed a termination to the partnership by "mutual agreement".
Sky Ireland CEO, JD Buckley, highlighted "significant investments" in GAA as well as stating that both parties are committed to "identifying potential future partnership opportunities".
"Despite our participation in the broadcast rights bidding process, lengthy negotiations and a strong willingness on both sides to continue our partnership, Sky and the GAA have been unable to reach a renewal agreement," he said in a statement released by Sky Sports.
"A factor in this decision has been the new shortened GAA season and its knock-on impact on the number of games Sky Sports wanted to broadcast."
The GAA are hoping to finalise the media rights package in the coming days, with the next agreement to run until 2027.
