Sittingbourne manager Ryan Maxwell says his squad is looking very strong following summer rebuild at Woodstock
Sittingbourne manager Ryan Maxwell can afford to be selective when it comes to any further transfer business.
Maxwell has rebuilt the Brickies squad over the summer after seeing 10 of last season’s players move on to higher levels.
He isn’t ruling out more signings but won’t be adding bodies for the sake of it.
“First and foremost, they’ve got to be better than what we have,” said Maxwell.
“I’m really fortunate that I’ve got players who were playing Step 2 last year training with us on Saturday.
“Will we sign them or not? I’m not sure. That’s still up for debate but if anyone comes in now, they’ve got to be at a really good level, because I’m not going to sign people for the sake of it.
“The squad right now is very strong.
“I’m always open to improvement but only if it is an improvement and not just for numbers.”
Last season’s players were always going to be in demand after a record-breaking campaign that saw Sittingbourne accumulate 101 points in Isthmian South East and reach the FA Trophy quarter-finals.
But Maxwell has embraced the challenge of going again, with striker Chaynie Burgin and midfielder Rohdell Gordon the latest additions last week.
They join the likes of Gavin Hoyte, Mitchell Beeney, Zain Walker, Reece Grant and Darren Foxley at Woodstock.
“I know a lot of people would not relish what I’ve got to do here in terms of losing such a great side and having to rebuild,” said Maxwell.
“Players have moved on and I wish them well.
“It gives me something to chase and it’s a challenge, isn’t it?
“Ultimately, that’s what gets me out of bed, a challenge, and I’m pretty confident I know what I’m doing.
“With the help of Leo (Roget, new assistant manager), we’ve gone through many players that we like and we are
