Sir Keir Starmer 'honoured' to introduce Martyn's Law to Parliament after Manchester Arena attack

Sir Keir Starmer has said he is 'honoured' to be introducing Martyn's Law to Parliament more than seven years after the Manchester Arena bombing which claimed 22 innocent lives.

The new legislation to increase protection against terrorism was introduced to Parliament on Thursday (September 12), and will require many public venues to scale up their preparedness against possible attacks.

It is named after Martyn Hett, who was one of the 22 victims of the arena atrocity on May 22, 2017. His mum, Figen Murray, began campaigning for Martyn's Law more than five years ago.

"In the years since, I have heard the heartbreaking accounts of that night, and been overwhelmed seeing the commitment of victims, their families and survivors to turn this tragedy into a moment that will help better protect every person in the country.
