Sir Jim Ratcliffe has signed three Under-18 players who could become Manchester United stars

By the end of the summer transfer window, Manchester United will have signed three talented young players who have the potential to star at Old Trafford for the next decade.

The first through the door, Leny Yoro, is perhaps the most likely to achieve that given the transfer fee he commanded. United paid an initial €62m with a further €8m in add-ons to sign Yoro from Lille and he arrived with a reputation of being one of Europe's finest young players.

Unfortunately, Yoro fractured his metatarsal in his second appearance in pre-season and is sidelined until October, but his return is something for fans to look forward to. United's new football structure, scouts and manager Erik ten Hag agreed Yoro would be an excellent addition and multiple meetings were held with the player to convince him to sign.

Although Real Madrid were interested in Yoro, they weren't prepared to meet Lille's demands for a player in the final year of his deal - yet the fee paid could eventually be worth every penny. There were glimpses of Yoro's quality on his debut against Rangers in pre-season and comparisons have been made with Raphael Varane given their backgrounds in France.

Varane was 18 when he joined Real. Back then, Varane was regarded as one of the most promising young French defenders and Yoro has that status in 2024. Varane became a Real Madrid legend and won countless major trophies before signing for United in the autumn of his career, so it's refreshing to see the club sign a talent who is on the rise instead of an ageing player on the decline.
