Sir Alex Ferguson reveals prediction for Man United vs Atletico Madrid Champions League fixture

Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping for a dominant Manchester United win against Atletico Madrid

United take on Atletico in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 on Wednesday at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Ralf Rangnick's side beat Leeds 4-2 at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon, displaying great character to respond to throwing away their two-goal lead, and that result means United head into this match unbeaten across their last four matches.

Atletico won the La Liga title last season but they've struggled for form this term and they're without key players on Wednesday.

United will be hoping for a positive result in Madrid and Ferguson has shared that optimism ahead of the match.

In a video on social media, Ferguson interacted with a United fan in Madrid, with Bryan Robson alongside him in his car. The legendary former manager confirmed he was in good health and also joked he would 'settle for five' goals against Atletico.

Atletico have conceded 34 goals in La Liga this season and only seven teams have conceded more in the Spanish topflight.

Diego Simeone has usually placed an emphasis on a strong defensive foundation during his 10-year reign at Atletico, but his side have struggled at the back this term and that has led to them sitting fifth in La Liga on the back of their title triumph.

Ferguson's prediction was tongue in cheek, but Atletico's defensive record will encourage United ahead of the match.

However, United have scored four or more goals on just three occasions this season.
