Síofra Lawless wins gold at World Junior Boxing Championships
Síofra Lawless has claimed a second gold for Ireland at the World Junior Boxing Championships in Armenia with a comprehensive defeat of India's Shrushti Sachin Sathe.
The Wicklow fighter had eased into the 63kg final in Yerevan thanks to a second-round stoppage win over Georgia's Ana Khvedelidze.
On Monday, Lawless was again highly impressive as she took a unanimous decision win.
It marks a positive climax to the championships for Team Ireland. On Sunday, John Donoghue produced a supreme performance in the the light welterweight final to beat Uzbekistan's Ulmasov Khikmatillo.
The Mullingar 15-year-old had had looked set to miss out on the chance to fight for a medal due to the Irish Athletic Boxing Association's (IABA) policy that boxers would withdraw if pitted against opponents from either Russia or Belarus, relating to the invasion of Ukraine.
The IABA dropped the boycott, and Donoghue went on to defeat Russia's Zakhar Bespalov in his quarter-final bout before getting past Greece's two-time European champion Emmanouil Fotiadis and then Khikmatillo in the decider.
