Simon Weaver makes Harrogate Town plea

Simon Weaver looks for consistency in performances as Harrogate Town travel to Rochdale United on Saturday. 

Weaver’s men travel to Spotland having taken seven points from their last five games, a run of inconsistency which has seen Harrogate languishing in mid-table.

The Sulphurites currently sit in 13th place in League Two. Following two home clean sheets on the spin, including last weekend’s 2-0 victory at home to Yorkshire rivals Bradford City, it looked like Harrogate were finding their form – but Tuesday’s 3-1 home loss to Crawley highlighted their lack of consistency.

Speaking to the Harrogate Advertiser, Weaver said: “The Crawley performance was frustrating, but it’s probably an indication of where we’re at at the minute.

“We are 13th, and we’re always wanting more and driving the lads on. There are partnerships in our team that we believe are strong enough to take us up into the top-10, but there’s also this inconsistency.

“I think we’ve learned not to get too far ahead of ourselves and set unrealistic targets. That’s why I’m not saying ‘win the next two and we’ll be however many points off the play-offs’.

“It’s not about that, we have to nail this consistency. Sections of the team need to evolve so we can become more consistent.”

Consistency has been hard to come by, but considering Harrogate only reached this level in 2020, being sat in mid-table and 12 points above the relegation zone is no small feat.

Now that their status as a League Two club is all but certain, perhaps the lack of pressure on the players can encourage a greater level of consistency in performances and results.

Either way, Simon Weaver’s words show that he is looking to drive his players on as they reach the final third of their league
