Should Manchester make more room for cyclists?

Last week saw new segregated cycle lanes almost finished off in Deansgate, offering two lane traffic for cyclists heading through the area.

The change is part of a continued strategy from the council to have 90 percent of morning peak trips to the city centre made on foot, by bicycle or using public transport by 2040.

But with some of our readers split on the change, we want to know if you think Manchester should keep making more room for cyclists.

One unhappy reader responded with: "What an absolute waste of OUR money."

Another raised concerns over disabled access to the city centre, saying: "I take it disabled people like me, who rely heavily on our cars to continue working and paying taxes, are now not welcome in Manchester."

However, some readers were very much in favour, with one commenting: "This is fantastic news. There should be more segregated cycle lanes and we should encourage all who can to cycle into the city. It’s the future."

Some else also added: "Good to see Manchester taking steps to reduce car traffic in the city centre, just as many European cities have been doing for quite a while now."
