Shock after men with 'bats and knives' burst into garage in horror double stabbing

In a 'quiet' corner of Bolton just metres from a primary school, residents were left 'shocked' by a violent double stabbing at a local garage.

Emergency services were scrambled to High Street in Great Lever at around 11.45am on Thursday (September 28) to reports of 'disorder'. Witnesses reported seeing around 'seven men' wearing balaclavas descending on the Tyre Bay garage with 'bats and knives'. A man and a woman were rushed to hospital with 'serious injuries' after they were stabbed in the attack.

A local primary school was put on 'lockdown', with children unable to play outside during lunchtime, following the stabbing. Shocked parents and residents told the Manchester Evening News it was 'scary' the incident happened so close to a school.

One man who said he saw the assault said 'around seven men' armed with 'bats and knives' go into the garage bearing balaclavas. He told the M.E.N he saw the gearbox of a car 'covered in blood' following the attack. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed the incident involved a 'fight involving weapons'.

"I can't believe it happened on broad daylight," one man who works nearby said. "And right next to a school. It's really scary."

The area around Tyre Bay garage remained cordoned off for much of the day. A woman who also works nearby said the area was 'usually quiet' and the stabbing was 'really unexpected'.

"We just wouldn't expect it here," she said. "We weren't sure what happened but we heard screaming."
