Shin Tae-yong Focuses on Preparing the U-23 Squad for AFF Cup in Cambodia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Football National Team coach Shin Tae-yong immediately aligned his focus in preparing his squad to compete in AFF Cup U-23 which will be held in Cambodia from February 14 to 26. During this competition, Indonesia was the reigning champion when they won it back in 2019 with Indra Sjafri.

Following Indonesia's second match against Timor Leste on Sunday, January 30, the coach announced a training camp will begin soon for the U-23 team in Bali on February 3.

Currently, several players from the national team, including those that are set to join the U-23 team, are returning to their club and are allowed to play during League 1 before coming back for the camp.

"Training camp for Under 23, as the league is hosted in Bali. The camp will begin from February 3 to 8," said Shin Tae-Yong during a conference after Indonesia's exhibition match on Sunday, January 30.

However, Shin Tae-yong did not reveal the name list for the team. Likely, those that appeared in the match against Timor Leste are included in the list. The Indonesian team coach is set to call up additional players to fill the rosters. "Concerning it (the names), let coach Shin answer it. Presumably, it will be announced in early February," said Assistant Coach Nova Arianto.

Previously, the U-23 national team was scheduled to begin their trip to Cambodia on February 10. Indonesia joined the B group which consisted of Malaysia, Myanmar and Laos. The national team will face Laos in the upcoming first match on February 15.
