Shelbourne sign LOI-experienced duo Ali Coote and Sam Bone

Shelbourne have signed League of Ireland veterans Ali Coote and Sam Bone, from Detroit City and Maidstone United respectively.

Former Bohemians and Waterford midfielder Coote has joined the League of Ireland Premier Division leaders, subject to international clearance.

The 26-year-old will arrive at Tolka Park when the transfer window opens on 1 July 2024.

An attack minded left-sided midfielder, Coote has made nine appearances (eight starts) for USL Championship side Detroit this season in the tier below MLS.

The Scottish native played a key role in Bohs' 2021 European run, playing six times as they defeated Stjarnan and F91 Dudelange in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Coote scored twice against PAOK Thessaloniki in the third qualifying round, finishing the 2021 season with 42 appearances and seven goals.

In the 2022 season, Coote made 32 appearances and the following season played 30 times in the League of Ireland, scoring six goals.

Coote has made 109 appearances in total during his time in the League of Ireland with Bohs and Waterford FC, scoring 15 goals and registering 18 assists. He also played 11 times in the FAI Cup, helping Bohs to reach finals in 2021 and 2023.

Coote’s career began at Dundee United’s academy, where he made his senior debut in 2015 before spending three years at Brentford B. He joined Waterford FC in 2020 before moving to Dalymount, where he spent three seasons.

Coote has represented Scotland at U15, U16, and U17 levels, winning 18 caps between 2012 and 2015.

He said: "Delighted to be joining Shelbourne, I’ve spoken to a few of the boys and they love it here. Damien (Duff) and his staff have proved to be top level over the past few seasons and that’s an environment I’m excited to be a part of.
