Sheffield Wednesday striker Saido Berahino outlines how he can continue to improve

The faith that Darren Moore has shown in Saido Berahino this season continues to be paid off by the Sheffield Wednesday striker.

He has scored five goals and put on two assists in his last five games as the Owls have significantly strengthened their promotion hopes.

The highlight of Berahino’s career in South Yorkshire so far came against Cambridge at the weekend as his hat-trick led Wednesday to a huge 6-0 win at Hillsborough.

There were 13 games between his first and second league goals of the campaign and it certainly hasn’t been easy for the former West Brom striker.

However, he is really starting to prove his doubters wrong, and his manager right, as he has played a vital role recently.

On the back of a couple of seasons in Belgium, Berahino found it tough to re-adapt to the physicality and intensity of English football but he has claimed that regular game time has helped, and will continue to help, him build his form.

When asked how he can keep improving after the Cambridge victory, the Wednesday forward replied: “Match fitness. I have missed a lot of games, not played many 90 minutes.

“You can always see second half I struggle to get going. I always start well in the first half, but the second half feeling a little fatigued.

“But the more games under my belt will get me sharper. That’s what’s missing.”

In the last few weeks, it has become much easier for Moore to justify Berahino’s selection than it was at the stage of the season where he was struggling to have an impact in the final third.

The confidence he has been able to gain from a consistent run of games has made him a completely different player to the one that was previously out of contention for a starting berth.
