Sheffield Wednesday seal major transfer coup by signing Cardiff City midfielder Will Vaulks

Midfielder Will Vaulks has today been unveiled as Sheffield Wednesday's third summer signing. The 28-year-old will officially move to Hillsborough on a free transfer when his Cardiff City contract expires at the end of June.

His arrival represents a big coup for the Owls. It is believed the Wales international has turned down at least two offers from Championship clubs to join Darren Moore's Wednesday revolution.

Wirral-born Vaulks started his career at Tranmere Rovers but he did not make a single appearance for the League Two outfit. He headed north of the border in 2013, joining Falkirk initially on loan before finalising a permanent transfer.

Vaulks quickly established himself as a mainstay in the Bairns' midfield, racking up over 100 appearances in the Scottish Championship. He featured in the 2015 Scottish Cup final and two Scottish Championship play-off finals.

Vaulks, who qualifies for the Welsh national team through his mother, moved to Rotherham United for an undisclosed fee in 2016. The 28-year-old suffered relegation to League One during his first season with the Millers.

But Vaulks was named Rotherham's player of the season the following campaign as Wednesday's South Yorkshire neighbours made an immediate return to the second tier. Paul Warne's side went up via the play-offs, beating Shrewsbury Town in the final at Wembley.

Vaulks, who has been deployed at right back and in central defence in his career, contributed an impressive eight goals and seven assists as the Millers failed to retain their Championship status. He picked up the first of his seven Wales caps in March 2019 against Trinidad & Tobago.
