Sheffield Wednesday labelled play-off favourites after huge MK Dons victory

Sheffield Wednesday have moved to odds-on-favourite to finish in the League One play-offs after their victory over MK Dons. The Owls ' win puts them fifth in the standings.

Darren Moore's side boast a game in hand on Wycombe Wanders and Plymouth Argyle as they bid to extend their season into May. After results went against Wednesday on Good Friday, they responded emphatically by ending MK Dons' 15-game unbeaten run.

Unsurprisingly, that had put the Owls as the odds-on favourite to secure a top-six berth. Wednesday are as short as 1/20 to finish inside the play-off places.

Moore's men are only behind Wigan Athletic, Rotherham United and MK Dons, who are all fighting for automatic promotion, in the outright promotion market too. The Owls can be backed at 13/8 for an immediate return to the Championship.

Wycombe Wanderers and Oxford United are deemed the least likely to make the play-offs, though Plymouth face Sunderland, Wigan and MK Dons in their final three fixtures. Wednesday travel to Wycombe next weekend in a crucial match.

Rotherham United's win at home to Ipswich Town coupled with defeats for Wigan and MK puts them back in pole position for second place. Wigan are still expected to win the League One title.
