Sheffield United’s Oli McBurnie sends four-word message to Sunderland after dumping Sheffield Wednesday out of the play-offs
Sunderland broke Sheffield Wednesday hearts last night in the League One play-offs, as Patrick Roberts’ injury time goal secured them a 2-1 aggregate victory and a place at Wembley.
Alex Neil’s side had a slender lead heading to South Yorkshire following Ross Stewarts’ goal on Friday night at the Stadium of Light.
The tie looked destined for extra time, too, when Lee Gregory met a Marvin Johnson cross to establish the lead on the night and parity in the contest.
However, Jack Clarke’s cross was met by Roberts during 10 additional minutes at the end of the second-half, sending Sunderland back to Wembley, where they will face Wycombe Wanderers.
There were plenty of the footballing world’s eyes on events at Hillsborough last night, particularly those of a Sheffield United persuasion given the city rivalry with Darren Moore’s side.
Amongst those reacting to the result was Oli McBurnie, with the striker sending a message on Twitter to Sunderland that’s sure to rub salt in Wednesday wounds.
