Sheffield United receive uplifting injury news

Sheffield United have been boosted by a positive update on Enda Stevens’ calf injury. 

Stevens started Sheffield United’s opening day defeat to Watford, but lasted only 55 minutes.

The 32-year-old is now nursing a calf injury.

As per a report from the Sheffield Star, the prognosis with regard to Stevens has been a positive one.

“Enda’s scan came back much more positive than we were hoping,” Stuart McCall revealed. “He’s going to be out but we’re looking, hopefully, at weeks rather than months. Sometimes they don’t show up too much or everything that you want to see. But the people who deal with these things were quite encouraged by what they were looking at.”

Oli McBurnie, meanwhile, is edging closer to a return, whilst Billy Sharp is almost at full fitness. Chris Basham is a defensive absentee alongside Stevens.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side registered their first win of the Championship season on Saturday, beating Millwall 2-0 at Bramall Lane.

Attention this week is on the EFL Cup, though, with West Brom the Blades’ opponents.

That comes before attention switches back to the Championship on Sunday with a trip to Middlesbrough, where they lock horns with Chris Wilder once more.

The Verdict 

The fixtures are coming thick and fast as they always seem to do in August.

It’s obviously irritating for Heckingbottom that he’s without someone of Stevens’ quality and experience, but he’s got cover elsewhere in the squad.

Sheffield United are lucky in that sense, although given their other issues, they won’t want to be carrying too many other casualties long-term.
