Sheffield United player on Champions League side's shortlist alongside Manchester City defender

Sheffield United defender George Baldock is one of four defenders named on a shortlist of targets for Greek champions Olympiacos. The Blades right wing-back has recently been called up to Gus Poyet's Greece side for their recent Nations League qualifying campaigns.

He qualifies through his grandmother and has featured in the last three. He played the full 90 minutes in the 1-0 win over Kosovo and last night's 3-0 success over Cyprus.

Greece fans and media have been impressed with how well he has taken to life at international level and he has earned positive reviews. He has long been linked with a move to the Karaiskakis Stadium and links to the Greek side first emerged last summer, along with interest from Celtic.

However, nothing materialised but the link to Olympiacos refuses to go away.

To10.gr report that manager Pedro Martins would like to add a new right-back to his squad and Baldock is one of his targets.

The report also says that Huddersfield Town's Pipa, Manchester City’s Jan Couto and Khellven, who turns out for Brazilian side Athletico Paranaense, is also on the list.

The 29-year-old signed for Sheffield United in the summer of 2017 and has made 166 appearances in a red and white shirt, scoring five goals. He was an ever-present in the first season in the Premier League and had attracted the interest of Tottenham following an excellent campaign.

His goal against Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was one of the highlights of the season and capped off a splendid team move. He still has two years remaining on his current Blades deal, which runs out in 2024.
