Shaun Wane insists he wants to continue as England coach beyond this year's World Cup - but says that decision will be made by the Rugby Football League, not himself.
Wane's existing contract in charge of the national team expires at the end of this year, having signed an extension in 2020.
However, he has stressed that he would like to continue in the role no matter what happens at this year's World Cup, and even hinted he would like to retain the role by the time the next tournament rolls around in France in 2025.
"I'm not going to be here for many World Cups and I won't get another one back here," he said. "As long as the RFL want to keep me in the job, I'll be up for it. We don't get many chances to play in a World Cup on our own soil, and whether I'm here for the French one.. that's up to the RFL."
Wane also admitted he is excited by the prospect of leading a playing group into this year's tournament that he feels could be even stronger in the wake of last year's postponement.
"It's exciting because you get players with another 12 months more maturity in them like John Bateman and Morgan Knowles. I'm not one for looking back on it, it is what it is and we need to make the best of it."
Wane did admit, however, that he would have liked more time to work his players on top of the one meet-up per month between now and the end of the season, as well as the summer Test against the All Stars.
"I'd like another session a month with the players because I want us to have the best chance of winning the World Cup, but I do understand the predicament of Super League clubs. I've been involved in one and I do get it. I'm trying to help every club the best I can; it's really important I'm fair and the clubs are being great."
