Shannon Sweeney suffers defeat at Worlds in Istanbul
Ireland's Shannon Sweeney fell to defeat after a gutsy display against Argentinean Florencia Lopez at the AIBA Women's World Championships in Istanbul on Tuesday evening.
Lopez took the 48kg bout on a unanimous decision, but the Mayo woman can take plenty of positives from her maiden appearance at a Worlds.
Four more Irish fighters are in action on Wednesday. Michaela Walsh (57kg) and Aoife O'Rourke (75kg) take on American opponents Amelia Moore and Naoimi Melissa Graham respectively.
The USA fighters will have former former IABA high performance director Billy Walsh in their corner. Walsh became Team USA's head coach back in 2016.
Amy Broadhurst (64kg) faces Croatian Sara Beram while Carly McNaul (52kg) is up against Burundi's Ornella Havyarimana.
