Shane Warne saw a doctor about his heart before death in Thai villa, police confirm

Shane Warne saw a doctor about his heart before his death in a Thai villa, police said, as reports emerged blood stains were also found in the cricket legend’s hotel room.

The 52-year-old died of a suspected heart attack late Friday in a luxury villa on the Thailand holiday island of Koh Samui.

Late on Saturday, police spokesperson Yuttana Sirisombat told a press conference Warne had suffered chest pains before taking the lengthy holiday.

“He had asthma and had seen a doctor about his heart,” Sirisombat, from the Bophut Police Station, said.

“He had experienced chest pains when he was back home in his country.”

Blood stains were also reportedly found in the hotel room where Warne died - signs he may have been coughing up blood as his friends tried to resuscitate him.

Police are testing two water bottles found in the hotel room, but said no alcohol was found.

The circumstances of his death are not being treated as suspicious.

Foreign Affairs have been quick to respond, with DFAT working with Thai authorities to return Warne’s body home to Australia.

Australia’s Ambassador to Thailand, Allan McKinnon, told reporters Warne’s body will be returned as soon as possible.

“I’m here on behalf of Shane Warne’s family and his travelling companions to thank Superintendent Yuttana and his team here at the Bophut Police Station and the hospital in Koh Samui for facilitating this process and getting Shane Warne back to Australia as quickly as possible,” he said.

“They have been very compassionate, very efficient, and very understanding.”

Warne’s friend Andrew Neophitou added: “We really just want to get Shane home, that’s all we want to do”.

Warne’s remains will be moved to Surat
