Shane Warne’s death a ‘bad dream’ for his three children, manager says

Shane Warne’s manager has told how the cricket legend’s three children are struggling to come to terms with his sudden death in Thailand.

Speaking to 7NEWS on Sunday, James Erskine said Warne’s children - Brooke, 24, Jackson, 22, and Summer, 20 - were in shock after the 52-year-old died of a suspected heart attack on Friday while holidaying in Thailand.

“They expect the door to open, the end of a bad dream and Shane Warne to wander in and give them a big hug,” Mr Erskine said.

“Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen.

“(Warne’s ex-wife) Simone was very very upset and quite rightly so. As she rightly said, one daughter’s not going to have her father for her 21st.

“They’re not going to have their father take them down the aisle when they get married. She was as devastated as everyone.”

Warne was one day into a three-month break when he was found unresponsive in his hotel room. His friend and business manager Andrew Neophitou attempted CPR before an ambulance arrived.

Mr Erskine said there was a period of about 45 minutes when he didn’t know what the outcome would be. Then, he was told Warne had been pronounced dead.

“I was obviously shocked,” he said. “Simone went to pick up the kids. I had a conversation with (Warne’s father) Keith.

“Keith then went around to see his grandchildren... they were all in the same house.”

Just days before his death, Warne announced on Instagram he was 10 days into what he called “operation shred”.

“The goal by July is to get back to this shape from a few years ago,” he captioned a shirtless photo.

Mr Erskine added Warne had recently finished a “ridiculous diet” where he consumed only liquids for two weeks.

“It was a bit … all or nothing. It was either white buns with butter and lasagne
