Shane Warne’s cause of death confirmed after sudden death aged 52 in Thailand

A post-mortem has confirmed Shane Warne’s cause of death was “natural causes”.

The Australian cricket legend was found unconscious in his villa at a Thailand resort on Friday and could not be revived by friends or paramedics.

Warne was 52.

His family had been informed of the autopsy result and his body would be transferred to Australian consular officials for return to Australia, Thai deputy national police spokesman Kissana Phathanacharoen said on Monday.

Warne’s body will be driven from Surat Thani to Bangkok on Monday night before it is flown home to Australia on Tuesday ahead of a state funeral in Melbourne, 7NEWS understands.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death at age 52 from what’s believed to have been a heart attack.

Warne was discovered by his friend and business partner Andrew Neophitou at around 5.15pm on Friday - 15 minutes after they were due to meet for a drink and dinner.

The cricketer was sober at the time of his death, according to his manager James Erskine, while Thai police said the room was clean of alcohol or cigarettes.

It was previously revealed Warne had suffered chest pains while he was still in Australia and recently saw a doctor about his heart.

Warne had only just arrived in Thailand for what was to be a three-month break before a commentary stint in the English summer.

“In fact, he wanted a year off,” manager James Erskine told Fox Cricket.

“And I said: ‘there’s no way you can have a year off, they would’ve forgotten you by a year’.

“So he decided to have three months off.

“This was just the start of it and they’d only arrived (at the resort) the day or night before.”
