Shane Warne's body leaves Koh Samui for mainland Thailand autopsy

The body of Australian cricketing great Shane Warne is being moved from the Thai holiday island of Koh Samui to the mainland for an autopsy.

The 52-year-old died after suffering a suspected heart attack at a luxury villa on the island on Friday.

Warne's friends, Australian ambassador Allan McKinnon and DFAT officials are on board a car ferry accompanying the ambulance carrying Warne's body.

On arrival on the mainland the ambulance will travel to a hospital in the town of Surat Thani, where doctors will work to determine the exact cause of death.

More tributes have been laid outside the Sumajana Villas on Koh Samui, where Warne had been staying with his friends.

English tourist Alistair Plant rode up on a motorcycle to lay some flowers.

«I'm in Samui and I was devastated when I heard the news,» Mr Plant told the ABC.

«Obviously like everybody who likes cricket, loves cricket, I just thought, as I'm in the area I'd come along to pay my respects to the great man.

»Obviously he's a long way from Australia here but people who care about the game will come along and pay their respects."

More to come.
