Shane Warne dead: Australia cricket legend dies at 52

Cricketing legend Shane Warne has died aged 52.

The Australia spinner, who is one of the highest ever wicket takers in cricket, has died after a suspected heart attack.

In a statement, Warne's management said: “It is with great sadness we advise that Shane Keith Warne passed away of a suspected heart attack in Koh Samui, Thailand today, Friday 4 March."

The statement added: “Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived.

“The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course.”

Warne's 708 Test wickets has only been surpassed by contemporary rival and fellow spinner Muttiah Muralitharan.

Former cricketer Virender Sehwag lead tributes on Twitter, writing: "Cannot believe it. One of the greatest spinners, the man who made spin cool, superstar Shane Warne is no more.

"Life is very fragile, but this is very difficult to fathom. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and fans all around the world."

Former cricketer and commentator Shoaib Akhtar posted a photo of him and Shane together, adding: "Just heard the devastating news about legendary Shane Warne passing away. No words to describe how shocked & sad i am. What a legend. What a man. What a cricketer."

Meanwhile sports broadcaster Gary Lineker posted: "Terribly saddened and shocked to hear the news that Shane Warne has died. The greatest spin bowler of all time. Can’t quite believe it. RIP Shane".
