Shane Warne, Australian cricket legend, has passed away

The world of cricket has been rocked today as news emerged that legendary Australian leg spinner, Shane Warne has died.

Warne’s management released a short statement after the cricketer-turned-commentator was found unresponsive in Thailand having suffered from a suspected heart attack.

The statement, per Fox, reads:

“Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived,” the statement reads.

“The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course.”

Over the course of his illustrious career, Warne took a staggering 708 Test wickets at an average of 25.41.

While Warne’s skill with the ball was his greatest strength, possessing a myriad of indecipherable variations, it was often his psychological warfare that won him the fight before he even had to bowl.

The Australian always cut an intimidating figure and was never willing to give an inch while in the heat of battle.

However, off the field, you couldn’t hope to meet a friendlier man.

The news will undoubtedly come as a shock to the cricketing world with Warne still so prominent in the game despite retiring in 2007.

He was a much loved commentator, a coach, and truly one of the nicest people in cricket.

No one had more time for the fans than Shane Warne and his massive personality will be truly missed in our game.
