Shamrock Rovers win LOI title after win over St Patrick's Athletic

Shamrock Rovers have won their fourth League of Ireland title in a row after a 2-0 win over St Patrick's Athletic at Richmond Park.

In a first half where both teams had chances to take the lead, the defences were on top as neither side could find a way through. The second half had much fewer opportunities, but a late goal from Aaron Greene gave the champions the lead in the 84th minute

While St Pat's had late chances, Stephen Bradley's side used all their experience to see out victory, as Graham Burke secured the title with a goal in 91st minute, as the celebrations were able to begin.

While St Pat's will be disappointed not to stop Shamrock Rovers, they will have their chance of silverware in the FAI Cup final in two weeks.

At the other end of the division, Cork City, who will play the champions on Monday, suffered a 1-0 defeat to Derry City.

A goal from Ronan Boyce in the 75th minute gave Derry City victory and Cork remain in the relegation play-off position, six points behind Sligo Rovers.

Elsewhere, Dundalk claimed a crucial 2-0 victory over Bohemians in the race for Europe, as Connor Malley's and Daniel Kelly scored late goals to secure victory. They now go above Bohemians into fifth place.

With fourth place possibly having European football if Bohemians win the FAI Cup, it is Damien Duff's Shelbourne who currently occupy the position on after a 3-2 win over UCD.

After tonight's results, Shelbourne are on 57 points, with Dundalk and Bohemians on 55 points.
