Shamrock Rovers to host Dundalk on 2024 League of Ireland opening day

Shamrock Rovers will open their SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division title defence against Dundalk at Tallaght Stadium on Friday, 16 February as the Hoops aim for a record five league titles in a row in 2024.

Slated for 8pm, that will be the late kick-off on the opening day with four fixtures at 7.45pm, including reigning Sports Direct FAI Cup champions St Patrick's Athletic visiting promoted Galway United; Derry City hosting Drogheda United; Sligo Rovers away at Bohemians; and Shelbourne visiting promotion play-off winners Waterford.

The mid-season break will coincide with the start of Euro 2024 after fixtures on Thursday, 13 June before the league resumes on Friday, 28 June.

In the Women's Premier Division, champions Peamount United will start their title defence on the road, taking on Cork City at Turner's Cross at 2pm on Saturday, 9 March.

Reigning cup winners Athlone Town will start their season at the later time of 7.30pm at home to Avenir Sports All-Island Cup holders Galway United, with Shelbourne, DLR Waves and Wexford at home to Sligo Rovers, Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians respectively.

The Men's First Division will see relegated Cork City begin life in the second tier with a home Munster derby fixture on 16 February against Kerry at Turner's Cross.

The men's and women's FAI Cup finals will be held on Sunday, 10 November and Sunday, 20 October respectively, while the second edition of the 16-team cross-border Women's All-Island Cup will begin on 23 March.

The men's promotion/relegation play-off is scheduled for Friday, 8 November.
