Shamrock Rovers sign Melissa O'Kane from Athlone ahead of WNL campaign

Shamrock Rovers have signed Ireland Under-19 international Melissa O'Kane ahead of the upcoming 2023 SSE Airtricity Women's National League season.

The Hoops women return to the top tier of football in 2023 and have already signalled their intent by signing renowned Ireland internationals Aine O'Gorman and Stephanie Roche.

And now they have added one of the country's brightest prospects as O'Kane signs from Athlone Town.

The defender was involved with the midlands club during the 2022 season where they finished second in the table and finished as runners-up in the FAI Women's Cup.

"I am delighted to join Shamrock Rovers, it will be a great challenge for me and an opportunity to further my career," said O'Kane.

"I’m very excited for the season ahead and can't wait to get started in pre-season."

First team manager Collie O’Neill said: "I am delighted to have Melissa on board. She is a young player who can play in several positions, she reads the game very well and is technically very good on the ball."
