Shamrock Rovers confirm appeal against FAI's Dawson Devoy ruling

Shamrock Rovers have confirmed they have appealed the FAI's decision to reject their protest against a Bohemians player who they said was ineligible for a recent FAI Cup game.

The Hoops lost 1-0 to their Dublin rivals in July and claimed that new signing Dawson Devoy, who had a suspension from his time in England when sent off in the EFL Trophy, should have been banned for that game.

However, the FAI did not deem Devoy was banned for the FAI Cup and instead would serve a ban for the league game against Dundalk, which he subsequently did.

Rovers' initial appeal was dismissed last week but the Independent Disciplinary Committee did allow leave to appeal, which Shamrock Rovers have now done.

"Shamrock Rovers FC confirm that it has appealed the decision of FAI Disciplinary Committee in relation to Sports Direct Men's FAI Cup tie against Bohemian F.C," the statement read.

"The appeal, as with the original protest, will focus on several aspects, most notably the statutory basis and decision-making process for determining player eligibility for the game.

"The club will make no further comment on the process at this time."

Bohemians are due to face Kerry FC in the third round of the FAI Cup on Sunday.

It is likely the appeal will be heard before that game.
