SFA tell Philippe Clement he got Rangers penalty blast WRONG as panel write off astonishing rant in 2 sentences

The SFA's Key Match Incident panel have declared Philippe Clement was WRONG in his post match rant after Rangers defender John Souttar gave away a penalty against Hibs.

The Easter Road side had the chance to level at Ibrox when Mykola Kukharevych saw his shot from close range hit the hand of Souttar as he attempted to block it during the Scottish Premiership clash. The VAR team would step in after referee Nick Walsh had initially waved play on - with the man in the middle pointing to the spot after consulting the pitchside monitor.

Jack Butland would save Kukharevych's penalty just before half-time and Rangers would hold on to win 1-0 - but that didn't ease the fury of boss Clement after the full-time whistle. The Belgian insisted that Souttar's hand was in a natural position and that the defender was took close to the shot of the Hibs man, even getting out of his seat to re-enact the flashpoint during his post-match press conference.

But Scottish football's governing body have now released the review of the incident from the KMI team and state that the match officials reached the correct decision - including to not send off Souttar for denying a goalscoring opporuntity. Their assessment read: "The panel deemed the on-field decision as incorrect and supported the VAR's decision to intervene to award the penalty.

"They noted that the referee was correct not to show a red card as the defender wasn’t Denying an Obvious Goal Scoring Opportunity (DOGSO). This was due to the position of the Rangers goalkeeper."

There were also questions raised over of Butland was on the line when he saved from 12-yards. Whistler Walsh also received support with the comment from the KMI stating: "The on-field decision was unanimously
