Series win over Boks would be Pivac's career highlight: 'It's a hell of a beast in front of us'

Wales head coach Wayne Pivac says claiming a series-win over the Springboks would be the highlight of his career.

Wales' 13-12 win in Bloemfontein last weekend was their first-ever win over the Boks in South Africa. With the series locked at 1-1, Pivac's charges now have the opportunity to win the series at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

It will be a monumental feat, especially given the fact that the Springboks haven't lost a home series since going down 2-1 to the British & Irish Lions in 1997.

Pivac rates the enormity of Saturday's occasion as similar to last year's Grand Slam match against France which ultimately ended in a 32-30 defeat.

"It's got to be alongside the game to win a Grand Slam in France. It's the next biggest match, or the biggest match, if you like. France at the end of that Six Nations was one thing but this is South Africa in their own backyard. We all know the history and how powerful they are," Pivac said, as quoted by Wales Online.

"It's a hell of a beast that is in front of us. But if we could win this game it would definitely be the highlight, I would imagine, of the players' careers to date, certainly mine because we'll have created history and won a series in South Africa.

"You may not see that again for a long time because it's taken us this long to win one Test match. Doing it two weeks in a row, that would have to be the highlight."

New Zealand-born Pivac has been involved with the Welsh national side since 2019, having coached the Scarlets for five years before that (2014-2019).

The 59-year-old also coached teams like Auckland, North Harbour and Northland back in his native New Zealand, while he was Fiji's head coach from 2004-2007.

Saturday's Test off at 17:05.
