Sergio Perez says he's hoping his fortunes will change at the Australian Grand Prix

Sergio Perez has said that he is hopeful that his luck is going to change this weekend at the Australian Grand Prix, with the Mexican looking for better fortune this time out in Melbourne compared to his race in Saudi Arabia.

Perez impressed at round two of the Formula 1 season with him sticking his Red Bull RB18 on pole ahead of Sunday’s race in Jeddah.

However, some bad luck around a pit-stop just before a Safety Car call robbed him of the lead and eventually demoted him to fourth place, with him then unable to scramble back to P1.

It was certainly unfortunate, but Perez is not dwelling on things and he is instead looking forward to getting back going in Australia and challenging at the sharp end once again:

“It is great to be back in Melbourne after two years away, it is always a fun place to race,” he said.

“The fans are always great and I am sure they are very excited to have Formula 1 in Australia again.

“This year the track layout is new so it will be interesting to see how this fresh generation of cars gets on there.

“I did some simulator work at the beginning of the week on the track and I think the changes should be good for the show, it will make things entertaining.

“It has been so close in the races so far and the team and I have been unlucky at times, but I am confident that my luck will change this weekend.

“We have a strong package this season and I can’t wait to get in the car again to see what we can do.”

Certainly, Perez can afford to be optimistic as he knows that his Red Bull car is going to be on the pace most weekends right now.

That said, after a retirement in Bahrain and no luck in Saudi either, he knows a turn in fortune will be needed if he is going to put a championship challenge together.
