Sergio Perez has said he is eyeing a world championship challenge in 2022

Sergio Perez has admitted he has the fastest team-mate on the grid in Max Verstappen but has also reiterated that it is his ambition to win the F1 world championship, as the 2022 season draws ever nearer.

His Red Bull team unveiled their 2022 car earlier this week in Milton Keynes and he was in attendance alongside his championship-winning team-mate Verstappen to take a look at the RB18.

Indeed, it’s a car that Red Bull will be hoping can once again challenge for both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ titles in 2022, and Perez obviously wants to be able to mount his own charge after helping his team-mate take the crown in 2021.

“That’s what I’m here for — I prepare myself to be a world champion,” Perez told ESPN.

“I really hope that I can have a good car this season to be able to fight for it.”

“I think there is no secret that I have got the fastest teammate in the whole grid,” Perez said. “But I am working into it.

“I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t believe in myself and if I didn’t work through it. I am only here because I am working to be a world champion and I am giving everything I possibly can.”
