Sergio Aguero names Premier League star that 'matches' Man City's style amid transfer links

Sergio Aguero has named Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes as the player who "matches" Manchester City's style.

The summer transfer window is likely to see plenty of speculation surrounding which players may or may not be signed by City. Four new signings were made last summer, with Josko Gvardiol, Jeremy Doku, Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic all arriving at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola will want to reshape his squad once again when the window reopens at the end of the season. How much change that will involve remains to be seen, with rumours around potential new signings already starting to emerge.

Guimaraes has been tentatively linked with a move away from Newcastle this summer, as the club looks to ensure it complies with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and Financial Fair Play (FFP). The Brazilian is reported to have a £100 million release clause in his contract, which is only likely to see the rumours around his future continue.

Aguero, who scored 260 goals across 390 appearances for City, has been retired from football since 2021. Now the former striker has weighed in on Guimaraes's future, and while not giving his opinion on a potential transfer he did acknowledge that the Newcastle star is suited to Guardiola's style of play.

"I haven't been following the trade market," Aguero told Stake.com. "There's usually a lot of chatter in the months leading to the window and you never know how it plays out.
