Serena Williams shows off her backhand ahead of Wimbledon

Serena Williams looked on great form on Saturday as she showed off her backhand during a training session at London's All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

The American tennis ace, 40, also sported black tape on her face as she prepared to take part in the Wimbledon tennis tournament after gaining a wildcard entry in the ladies' singles.

Serena, who was forced to pull out of the first round of the Championships due to injury last year, wears medical tape on her face as it helps to relieve the pressure and pain of her sinus problems.

And it appears the sinus relief was certainly a good shout as she looked as ready as ever to take on her opponent at the prestigious tournament.

The star sported tennis whites for the practice session, teaming a white Nike long-sleeved top with a matching pleated tennis dress.

Serena teamed her look with white socks and trainers and shielded her eyes from the sun with a coordinating white visor.

The mother-of-one, who swept her curly locks into a high ponytail, was in great spirits as she was seen smiling away during her session on the court.

She was even seen larking around with a member of her team, who kindly applied sunscreen to her face.

The training session comes days after Serena delighted crowds at Eastbourne on Tuesday night by teaming up with Ons Jabeur to emerge victorious from her first match since limping out of Wimbledon last year.

Williams was clearly delighted after the scratch duo overcame Sara Sorribes Tormo and Marie Bouzkova 3-6 6-3 13-11 in a deciding champions tiebreak.

However she did not wish to look beyond her appointment at the All England Club next week, which will surely feel more comfortable having come through an excellent workout.
