Senior Nottingham Forest figure offers encouraging insight into off-field changes

A senior Nottingham Forest figure has said Kyriakos Dourekas, the latest addition to the Reds’ board of directors, has been a popular figure at the club for a few years while the move represents owner Evangelos Marinakis’ commitment to the City Ground outfit, according to BBC East Midlands’ Natalie Jackson.

It was announced yesterday by Forest that Dourekas, who has served as the club’s director of football since 2018, had been added to the board of directors.

He has 25 years of experience with Greek Super League champions Olympiacos, who are also owned by Marinakis.

Jackson has shed some further light onto the off-field shake-up, revealing that a senior club figure has said Dourekas has been a “hugely popular figure around the club for a few years now”.

His elevation to the board is said to be a “very popular decision and another indication of the owner’s commitment to the club as he was highly valued at Olympiacos”.

The Verdict

This is an encouraging update on the off-field changes announced by the East Midlands club yesterday.

Fans will surely love to hear that it illustrates Marinakis’ commitment to the Reds and that it seems he is placing their needs above that of his other club Olympiacos.

There have been some questionable decisions made by the Forest hierarchy in recent years but under Dane Murphy and Steve Cooper, there seems to be a clear plan moving forward.

That should translate onto the pitch and so far we’re seeing just that.
