Senegal win AFCON: Footage of trophy parade is simply astonishing

Senegal clinched their first international title on Sunday night as they overcame Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations final.

Sadio Mane smashed home the winning penalty in the shootout as the Lions of Teranga got the best of a tight contest in Cameroon.

Mane would have been the most relieved man on the planet as well, having missed from the spot in regular time during the first half.

The Senegalese side pressed for a winner but were held heroically at bay by the Egyptian goalkeeper, Gabaski.

The stopper was in inspirational fomr as he single handedly erected a brick wall in front of his goal to keep the opposition out.

Fortunately, for Senegal, they were able to keep Mohamed Salah quiet and benefitted from some fine work from the ‘keeper, Edouard Mendy.

In the end, the continental showpiece went to penalties and it was Senegal who would hold their nerve.

The win sparked wild celebrations among the Senegalese camp and you can be sure those continued on late into the night.

How can you be sure? Well, as a matter of fact, it seems they were still going on Monday afternoon.

The triumphant heroes arrived int the Senegal capital to a welcome unlike anything they will have ever seen before.

The streets were lined with a tidal wave of thunderous fans forming a riot of colour to celebrate their new champions.

It made for historic viewing, but perhaps the best part was the fact that the team had to sit on top of a regular bus, with no open top bus available.

As the coach snaked its way through the multitude of masses, the players could be seen simply sat atop the roof of the bus, drinking in the joyous scenes.
