Sell or keep? The Barnsley players that could be in the shop window this summer as transfer season beckons
It goes without saying that the 2021/22 season is surely one that anyone of a Barnsley persuasion would rather forget sooner rather later.
A dismal campaign that failed to really get going under Markus Schopp or Poya Asbaghi saw the Tykes comfortably relegated from the Championship with several games to spare, a far cry from their spectacular run to the play-offs just last season.
But with that return to League One now confirmed, the club can at least start planning for their return to the third-tier, and put some ideas in place for what the squad ought to look like under Asbaghi’s eventual replacement.
As well as bringing players in to try and strengthen the side, there will also be the issue of potential departures for those key players who currently remain at Oakwell.
So with that in mind, we’ve taken a look at whether Barnsley should be looking to sell or keep those individuals, who could potentially attract interest during the summer transfer window.
Sell: Carlton Morris
One player who Barnsley could find hard to keep come the summer is Carlton Morris, who is one of the few at the club to have some credit in tact after what has happened this season.
The attacker missed a significant portion of the campaign through injury, and given he did score seven goals and provide three assists in 27 games when fit, things could have at least been somewhat better for Barnsley during the current campaign.
As a result, there are some clubs who may be willing to pay a fee for Morris this month, with it being reported that several in the Championship are keen on the 26-year-old, who will be in the final year of his Barnsley contract this year, making this the club’s last chance to receive a fee for the attacker.
Sell: Callum Styles
