(CNN)Like many footballers with dual nationality, Ajax's star striker Sébastien Haller had a choice to make.

Born in a southern Parisian suburb, to a French father and Ivorian mother, Haller had represented France during the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in 2011.But in November 2020, ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying rounds, the Ivory Coast came knocking.
