Seamus Power makes solid start to Shriners Children's Open in Las Vegas

Seamus Power has made a solid start at the Shriners Children's Open in Las Vegas.

The Waterford native carded an opening-round 69, which leaves him on two under ahead of Friday's second round.

Power was among the early starters on the par-71 TPC Summerlin course and made strong initial progress with back-to-back birdies on 10 and 11.

By the end of his opening nine holes, he was up to four under after birdies on 14 and 16.

But the front nine proved a more difficult proposition for the 35-year-old.

A double bogey on the par-4 third dropped him back to two under before he bounced back with a birdie on six.

However, another bogey on the penultimate hole of the day saw him settle for a two-under start, with USA's Tom Hoge setting the early pace on eight under.
