Scotland manager sends Scott McTominay Manchester United message amid Bayern Munich transfer 'interest'

Scotland manager Steve Clarke has addressed Scott McTominay's lack of first-team minutes amid transfer speculation surrounding the Manchester United midfielder.

McTominay is yet to start for United this season, racking up just nine minutes of football from two appearances off the bench. The 26-year-old was an unused substitute during a 2-0 defeat at Tottenham earlier this month, despite such obvious problems surfacing in midfield.

Gary Neville suggested that Erik ten Hag was managing McTominay out of the club by restricting his minutes, with West Ham United known admirers of the Scotland international. Bayern Munich have also emerged as potential suitors as they eye a new holding midfielder.

On Monday, McTominay was named in the Scotland squad for the upcoming international break, where they face Cyprus and England. And Clarke believes the midfielder will be ready to feature despite not getting the minutes he'd want at club level.

"Scott’s a terrific professional," Clarke said at a press conference after the announcement. "I’m sure he has been working hard over the course of pre-season.

"He gets his minutes off the bench for Manchester United, definitely not as many minutes as Scott would want, but I’ve got no worries in terms of Scott’s physicality and mentality. He will be ready, if selected.”

McTominay is one of several Scotland players being linked with a late move and while it is unlikely, he could join up with his international teammates as a player for a different club. The transfer window closes at 11pm on Friday evening and Clarke admits he would be willing to offer advice if any of his players need it.
